This two weeks I will be acting as PUM Expert for Institut Palcomtech Palembang Informatik team. I am now in Palembang at their Campus for one week to research the wishes for a new curriculum around Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT). After a week we have built the outlines for the first two years. A lot of existing material, modules, project assignments, learning outcomes etc. are already in place, but now they are rearranged. PalcomTech needs to fulfill its own educational wishes, but also according to the Indonesian Educational System with things like mandatory courses, the way to describe their education using Bloom’s Taxonomy and much more.
The draft for an IoT-semester is already written so we can move on. Every day the team gets more confidence they can create this modern education to prepare their students for playing a role in innovation in the region. Palembang’s economic area is home to different industries like a wide variety of agriculture and mining.
This coming week we will do some active learning and a workshop on playful, game-based learning. And create the AI-semester. And I get the change to conduct a seminar for students and lecturers on Green/Sustainable IT 🙂
In the weekend I visited the Mobile Legends competition students from PalcomTech’ s esport (https://lnkd.in/d–vXN83) and palcomtechtv (https://lnkd.in/defsMciV) hobby clubs organized and hosted. Invited where more than 250 student teams (46) were invited from local high schools. A great way to let the students learn and to pay attention to your school.
After two weeks intense work with the Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis PalComTech Informatik Lecturer Team we rapped the project at Friday. The second week (for week one read https://lnkd.in/d7Gtkica) had a mix of active learning examples and designing the new curriculum. Most of the times the team was discussing how far they want to go on AI and IoT education. Modules and learning outcomes were written. The Indonesian Government requires a lot of documentation for the institute. But on Friday we concluded that a basis for a new four years program was on paper. That’s part one. Planning and executing is the next phase.
On Monday the team conducted a half day technical assignment (simple mobile application connected to an Arduino board letting a bell ring and on interval using wifi) using scrum to see how collaborative the team handled a technical assignment. In the first week of this project we discovered that team collaboration for the student projects can be very valuable. But the lecturers team didn’t had much experience as well, so let’s see! It was a good learning experience!
On Wednesday I did a one hour seminar on GreenIT (https://lnkd.in/dXtWqCum) and recorded a podcast. Unfortunately there were two power blackouts, one disrupting the file of the podcast. So this one was redone on Friday. (So Dutch government be aware that this will be your future if you don’t get a handle in the growing power demand!)
On Friday morning the lecturers team and 8 students had serious fun with an Scrum Game (https://lnkd.in/dyhc7WFG). Serious was to plan, divide tasks, adjust and execute the task without cheating Fun with blowing up balloons, folding hats and sorting cards. Thanks to my college Swen-Peter Ekkebus for all the available material and advocating this sort of education.
We concluded with an overview of all that was done, a lot of “thank you” s and sweets and tea. And for me time to have a last dinner, pack and prepare going home, which I already am.
Asante (Ghana) Afgerond oktober ’25
This week I finished my second PUM project for the Asante Tano Methodist Technical Vocational Training Institute (https://lnkd.in/dMrF6gdS) in Ghana. We started in spring of this year with researching the possibilities of creating an infrastructure for a technology classroom for the school. With this classroom students of Asante can be prepared for using Office365-tools and prepare practical exams which are required by the Ghanese Government. In the future Asante can start with other forms of ICT-training.
Students of Windesheim’s HBO-ICT drafted a functional design and technical documentation for the school. I wrote an advisory report for the NGO.
The next phase is acquiring the acceptance of the NGO for the financial investment and go to the implementation phase.
